Reflection Music Group has unveiled the first single from B. Cooper's new album, While The City Sleeps (July 18), featuring Foure and production work by SykSense & Dirty Rice. Check out the song embedded via Soundcloud below.
B. Cooper shares about how the song materialized and its meaning...
1994 actually started out as somewhat of a joke. SykSense came through Dirty Rice's studio and played us 9 or 10 beats. This beat stood out to me, so he gave us the session and I was lost on what to do with it. I had it for 2 days and I finally gave up on coming up with a concept. Dirty and I continued to work on music. We had recorded 4 songs in those three days and I came back to this beat. I sent it, along with 3 other beats, over to my brother, Foure, and I didn't hear from him. Two hours later, I get an email with 4 songs. He recorded 1994 just to show me the hook. He actually free styled the first verse and we ended up keeping it on the song and forming the song around that whole concept.
The heart of this song is reflecting back on where we came from and understanding the growth that has taken place. This can apply to both musically and spiritually. I know personally, I have grown so much closer to God over the years. There have been ups and downs, but I am definitely not the same person as I was, even a year ago. We, as people, continually grow. Every once in a while we have to go back and realize where we came from. This helps us put a lot in perspective when dealing with others. By no means am I claiming to have it all together now, but I know I am way closer to where I want to be than I was years ago!
